collect money from family and friends and even my mom rosa. I wanted to get a pair of skate like the skaters there but i really did not know until i got a pair
called Marco blade by rollerblade they looked and seemed like they skates they had but they broke on me in like 2 months I don't think they were for
aggressive inline skating, anyway. Thats that!
aka "The Flats" this is where every inline skater gone to met and gather for a skate session and hang. This Place was Like a magical place
for skaters.
As for me Living in New York City Its just about everyone dream from what people say. Every one from everywhere will come by just to see you or what talent you
have and thats what I like, the visions of people looking at what we grown to do.
I started picking up skating more In Spanish Harlem in 1993 but not as much, my lovely momma Rosa Rivera put me in a bike program located on 117th street it was
"a garage" where a few local kids rode there bike there to go on a skate out with a adult, I don't know if my mom payed she just told me to go, how funny, to go bike
riding, my mom always wanted me to do something she did not want me to stay home a play video game she wanted me to be active all the time and out of trouble, all
I remember we went out to Randells Island and central park but one day in central park I really think it was the first time i seen a bunch of skaters hitting this rail, The
place is called 90th rail for those of you that don't know there was a awesome rail in central park that aggressive inline skaters skated at! So as I was riding my bike
with the bike program we had passed it and I stopped and I'm like huh? I froze for a bit and I said immediately to my self can do that on my skates, I have skates, Time
went on and I eventually pick it up more.
Jefferson Housing Projects is where I started located from 112th street threw 115th street 1st 2nd and 3rd avenues. Not a single soul was out with Inline skates
maybe hockey skates but that was only one guy but they were not the ones I was riding, Because I took my break off. The name of my skate were called "Streets"
colors were black and purple with black a purple laces. No one had a pair of skate in the neighborhood for a while, I was just the only kid with Inline skates riding
around the area, Until I found and made some friends that wanted to skate too, along with me. There name was Kevin and Joseph Warfeild they were twins these
guys were cool as hell always into the new video games, they lived in the area, we skated all the time around Jefferson jumping off small two step entrance to the
building all the time, skating backwards and even going on skate outs to like 86th street in Manhattan and back to 115th street, so much fun and down hill coming
back and we did this all the time throughout the summer.

Central Park! If you don't know ask some one. This place is amazing! too skate in, central park is so great, So many people and trees
surrounding you, anyway 72nd street in central park,The Band show aka the "Flats" was a skaters paradise back in the day, you had
everything there, Music, live performances everyday, dancing went on, what ever you can imagine was there, even us inline skaters! They
had largest benches ever to grind on and this awesome stage to jump off from oh and I forgot to mention the steps massive ones about on
them 30+ down Steps to flat and another 30+ down, wow, I remember a group of skaters used to stair ride that means going backwards, they
were so good. The skaters use to go one by one and even go in groups, the scene was amazing. I was in shock for a bit, but i knew that my
skates that i had was the right ones,

My Goals, shapes and visions for the New York City Aggressive Inline Skate scene,
Ever Since I was a little kid, I always wanted to be a part of this sport and play an
important role to our aggressive inline skaters here in New York. My Goal is expand
our sport to promote, teach and Introduce new comers to our world of inline skating
here in New York City. So I created my website called hypermikenyc.com "The home
of the Inline" this is the inline skaters portal experience on the web, providing top
skate news, events, weather, sports; quick and easy access to local inline skate
information of New York City.
Iv always been strong and active kid, growing up in NYC is tough. Iv been into
basketball camps, Baseball teams, football teams and leagues but I am great player
on all of them but none of those major sports has sparked my interest, Aggressive
Inline skating did. I picked up Inline skating at the age of 8 In Lancaster
Pennsylvania, I was just sitting on my stoop and my bike right

Everyday when I did not have school I would wake up, watch my morning
cartoons and eat breakfast for then out to skate, come back for lunch with my
skates then go back outside till the sun was about to set. Since the city was wild
sometimes I had to check in every 3 hours, I would do it all over again throughout
the summer and winter recess during school. Thats all I have done for my extra
activities to stay out of trouble here in New York city projects.Yes, I was one of he
kid on skate all the time.

Joel Hinds was the very first aggressive inline skater I ever met. Till this day ill
never forget. This was one summer day. I was skating with a friend, his name
was Andrew, I forgot his last name, He had some cool looking hockey skates
though, he was a real smooth skater with style, never fell and skated fast. I still
had my street skates, the black and purple ones? Anyway, as we were skating
down town we passed by 109th street in the corner of 2nd avenue there was a
school called The Key school at the time, I will never forget this day, as Andrew
and I approached this guy sitting in front of the school on the entrance stoop,
eating a little Debbie Cake! I believe it was a swiss roll, but anyway, He was all
decked out in skate gear, I think he was wearing a red short sleeve tee , blue
jean shorts with huge white knee pads called boneless knee pads,Boneless
knee pads were the ish back in the day, it was like new Jordans, that how hot it
was, with wrist guards and elbows with his helmet attached to his Jan sport
book bag. I was like whats up? What are you doing here? He was like chilling,
grinding, skating on the step right here, I'm like huh? He showed us for like 5
minute sample then we headed over to central park 72nd street the band show

beside me, Iv seen this boy on inline skates pass by across the street and I biked over to him and ask him if he would like to trade, so we did and thats when I
felt that Im going to be great at Inline skating.
I was always on my skates, I will leave home in the morning to go play in Jefferson with my skates on go check
out my brother Jay which I spent most of time with him as well. Jay skated to but not as much as I did. I was like
addicted ill go to the some stores, shopping with my mother, with my skates on, hiding like it was natural,
everything, even video game stores, pizza shops to play the latest arcades like NBA Jams Tournament Edition
and Mortal Kombat 2. Thats when I realized after a while all the grocery stores started placing signs saying in big
writing "No skates allowed".

I had to get another pair soon. But I did not know to much about aggressive inline skates at the time, everyones skates were
similar by the company rollerblade but in time I got me a pair of skate but not just yet. This place was so popular the skaters
will stay there till night time during the summer they would stair ride grind on the benches jump off the stage spins flips and
big airs! It got to a point where I seen skaters brang a large piece of wood and place it right over the bench for skaters can
launch and get big air into grass. Every time I visited the flats I'v always ate a kanish from the stand that sells food in the park,
that would last me all day it was so good, I put a little mustered, yum, I would head over maybe like 2 times a week and maybe
on Saturdays? But iv always stud in my neighborhood 115st. Just to name a few that were alway present Danny Ortiz
,Rawlinson Rivera, Alberto Peredez, Calvin Sayles, Victor Callender, Ron Hunter and Ray Mendez. So I was told that they
sell skate for me my size, at the time my feet were small and they did not make anything size 6 if so they were rare. I couldn't
afford a pair of skates like that. I waited on important days like x mas birthdays and holidays to

Hypermikenyc.com
My first real legit pair of skate were the rollerblade TRS Inline Skates by rollerblade at the time you only can get them at a place called Blades on 93rd 2nd
ave, now blades at the time every one went to get a pair of skates from skate boards to ski boots wheels and sick tee shirts. Now every time I went, I always wanted it
but when I got it i had to choose either blue ones or the new brown ones that came out they were exactly the same but the bolts were colored thats all , but no one
had them so I got them. As far as I can remember I put them on and buy the time I came home with my skates my mom ask me, are they the new skates? All I did is
smile and said yes!
"This is just as far as I can remember"
I live and always skated in Harlem and Spanish Harlem with my friends all the time but was not aware that a inline
pro skater lived in the neighborhood. Since Joey was a little advance then I was at the time he introduced me to
Rawlingson Rivera he was known from east coast to west coast all inline skate magazines and skate videos, he
lived on 100 street in Manhattan just a few blocks away from where Im lived. I was not skating much with
Rawlingson but every time we skated I always wanted to prove my self and always take to the next level, It was
hard work because there were other skaters as well doing their thing and you alway though they skated better
then you because they did a trick but anyway, as we skated with him he put us more on to the skate game and
how things can be he always talked about you have to skate with style if you dont have style your whack. Ever
since he said that, I looked and observed every skater that came my way, even until this day. Every skater is
different, different skates, clothing, skin color and hair but was stud out to me was style in how you skated placed
your arms, knees, rotation, speed and how difficult was the trick when you did it and non skater reaction when they
seen something awesome, Basically it was all about presentation and how well you preformed to others.
Not that many people were into aggressive inline skating back in the early 90s so who ever inline skated and had similar skates like yours, you became friends asap no
matter what, you were welcome, living in Harlem there were not to many to come by so we had to have a crew or you will be jumped by someone else's crew, we had to
be at least 3 or more to not be bothered by others. T.W.S " The Wicked Skaters" was created by by Joel and Andrew and my self it was just created because we
thought we were the nices inline skaters in the neighborhood I mean we were good so good that where ever we went we came deep and skaters that were skating seen
who we are. In Time Skate crews started to form around like S.W.S "Skaters with Skills" that was not to far from us and lived a few blocks away 117th street in Lexington
creator Geo. Geo was a great skater and a good friend of mine. When I first met him in Jefferson park he was doing his skate thing, but as time passed Geo became
nice on the ramps , with big air and 540 spins up in the air on a mini ramp, and he did that befor everyone even tried to do that, because till this day no one can do 540
off mini. So we merged and became bigger, but down town lower Manhattan there were crews like PSNY, and there was some even uptown the Bronx and queens was
B.D.R , P.F.P pound for pound, Team 270, Darkside, New Jersey's N.C New Creation crew, A.D.L, A.S.R, Band Aid 2000, Road kill, Team Corona, Hot shots and roller
boys. There were probably allot more this is just from the top of my head.

More to come
My favorite skate spots and locations in New York City? Central Park the flats, 94th Street in 1st ave, 59th
street Roosevelt hospital, The Infamous Rail City!! City Collage, Columbus University, Cathedral, King
High School, River Bank Park, 108 Skate park, Malady Skate Park, Chelsea, 161 Court Houses, Brooklyn
Banks, Spanish Harlem and Harlem.
My first Media Appearance to the inline world was in a magazine called The Daily Bread, This magazine
was based out in California and was only reached out to inline skaters across the world. I got in issue # 21
but let me tell you how I really got this shine. Back when I was about 17 years old maybe just kicking it into
high school I was skating most of time and always with Joel and Rawlingson and friends and Rawlingson
was always into videos and photo shot, and one day I was in the session with a bunch of skaters and
every one was just kicking it not skating, Since I was friends with Rawlingson and I aways tried to follow
how he skated but not the same I had my own because he was always travelling and brining back new
styles to the city to show us how they do out in Cali. So he had a photo shot downtown some where, All I
can remember was Rawlingson, Gill Vasquez and me was rolling on that day, everyone was siting down
maybe some FR guys, so I did my thing and was grinding, spinning jumping on rails and looking good like
what we do and the photographer said man you are unbelievable man your nice what is going on here.
This man was name TAKU he was Asian guy and was mad cool, even though It was not my shoot we
booked a photo session a week later at rail city. So I did my thing is rail city in Harlem, man this place was
like skater heaven on the weekends, It was a school on a hill like on a hill, I would get there on Saturday
mornings like 8am. Rail city had endless amounts of skate stuff. Like 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 step rails to
practice on amazing first you start up at the top then work your was down, so sick Iv spent so much time
there and met plenty of skaters there such as Boshi pope, now that is another story to be told but that was
my boy who I rolled with when no one knew who he was. yah know. Anyway. I had a hole spread that
revolutionized aggressive inline skating, Ryan Jacklone even quoted on it "I see Kids Jocking N.Y.C
because off all the illest shit is coming out of New York right now" and that quote was from the best
ever from my eyes he was nice! In the Magazine I Preformed a Ally Opp acid. This was the East Coast
Section and I was the first to show! I felt like the man, ever since this mag came out so many inline skaters
got to know who I was when this came out.

Hyper Wheels Aggressive line was from 1996 till about 1998 After the company went down hill with the aggressive line. So no more, but they still make hockey wheels for hockey players

I have to let you know about The Company, "Hyper Wheels" that sponsor me back in 97 maybe, this is when aggressive
skating was really kicking in here in New York City, Now this is a part of my Life, where this is very important to me as a skater
here in NY. As for Hyper Wheels co. This is every Aggressive inline skaters dream, is to be sponsored by a company that
supports your inline skating and other things that come with it. Hyper Wheels to Sponsored me and hooked me up with things
that I need. Thanks to Rawlingson, he was like here is a the phone number to call, her name was Carrie and hook up with 976
and Now for your skaters that are reading this, this is the era of Brian Bell, Arron Feinburg, RR , Hoax 2 and NISS, Era!!
When it was Sick and the inline skate industry was good. As far as I remember they had all comps set up and payed for all I
had to do is show up and do my thing. I visited Contest around the tri state area, I was young, could not go that far, but i had a
blast. Hyper wheels made me very popular in New York City. So many inline skaters will watch me and sit down just to learn, at
the time this was great. Iv meet so many inline skaters from all over the city, during that point.
If you are wondering how the Name Hyper Mike Came about, I did not make this name up this just came natural. Every time I
have skated in large groups in the city, there were other mikes in the crowd, there was white Mike, black Mike Spanish Mike,
So my Name was Hyper Mike, when I first herd my name for the first time, I was like, wow, ok , and this came from Bashi Pope,
now Boshi was a friend of mine that skated all the time with me at rail city and me and him always battle for hours, style,
balance, speed and how well you did skate tricks both ways,
The Bronx
The Bronx, I don't even know where to begin, So many stories to share. I guess I can start as far as I
can remember. So my mother and I relocated from 115th and Moved out to the Bronx in the
Parkchester area. Leaving the city was a little nuts but what the hell, I had to go with the moms. As for
me I felt that there were no aggressive skaters out here, that I had to go to the city all the time every
weekend to skate with my buddies and that was not always fun, This traveling on the train was about 45
mins away from Harlem because I was the type of person that to place my skate in my house and roll
out and skate.
One day I was heading down to the city to skate with my boys from back home right when I was about to
cross the street to head to the 6 train at Parkchester this guy on a bike stopped me and was like hey
you aggressive skate I'm like yeah, I think i was kinds obvious anyway he seemed cool, his name was
Fredy Gomez light skin tall dude with like carrot color hair, and he was telling me about how he skate
also and if i new a skater name AJ? I'm like no not yet, Fred was like well he lives around Parkchester if
i see him ill let him know that you are around now.
Ever since that day, I started meeting other skaters from the Bronx names such as Carmelo Sanchez,
DJ Torres, Hector Torres, Onez, Merchi Hernandez, Luis, Gerod, Black Rob, Aj, lil dude, Jayson
Sway and the infamous Ninja. We skated every inch of the Bronx from Throgs neck to 138th from east
to west. We called our crew Team Dark side! So many places Iv skated with them and so many other
skaters from out of town came to skate with us from long Island to Connecticut and even the west coast
Cali skaters came out to hang and skate with us. But most of out skate time was in the streets hardly in
skate parks because there were none.

This photo here was a hang out one day at Joey Hinds house and my 18th birthday friends came by to hang out. Top- Abdul, Me, Jill Gustafairy, AJ and Mike Murda Johnson, Bottom - White Mike, Carly S. Me , Geo, Fredy, Jesus -1999,

Roll American kids on wheels is a small company founded by Joel Rappafeld an inline skate teacher and instructor that has been teaching for over 20 years,
the word on the upper east side was he was, he is the man. They called him a legend in skating, I mean teaching people how to inline skate from kids to adults
and big corporate groups, parties and camps. Something about that guy that makes people learn how to skate I dont know till this day I don't understand,
anyway. I Met Joe Through my mom, she was working at Asphalt green at the time wen she told me some guy was doing programs at her job, and I was like
really do you think I can work for him or meet him? So she hooked it up! I was in I was still in high school at the time i must of been like 17 or 18 years old when
we met, 1998 just about. I was an aggressive inline skater that did not have any idea what i was getting myself into, I thought it was doing tricks and teaching
kids but it was not, It was a "how to", so he placed me into skate programs with other skate teachers, he mainly placed me with a guy name Frank when i started
out. Some teachers were great and some were just wacko, but Frank was amazing he still skates by the way, he also showed me the ins in skating helping out
and teaching small groups how to inline skate. Ever since iv started doing this inline skate thing, I still was doing my aggressive thing with my friends but i was
making way more money then most of them and I was not even sponsored witch was every skaters dream, Iv come to realize that what I was doing was more
important then being sponsored by a company that never gave to craps about skaters in New York so I keep doing what i was doing and supporting what I love.
Till this day.
I am still working for Roll America and running Inline skate After school programs on my own with an assistant to help out, just to name a few schools that I haved
worked with and its been great so far Along with Aggressive Inline pro skaters John Ortiz and Ariel Serun, Some Schools i worked for , Public Schools PS.9, P.S
116, P.S 183, Private Schools Church Hill, Hewitt Elementary, Ethical Culture, Sacrate Heart, Bearly School, Nightangale Allan Stevenson just to name a few.
After High School all my skate friends started separating very slowly
some skaters went on to collage some moved away or created a new
family and did there own thing. As for me the skate scene was not as
fun anymore, so I started working and partying more, hanging out.
Until skating faded away a little, So I moved to Albany NY and did some
studies out there to a technical school called ITT Tech, it was cool!
My time out there, was a whole new world, year 2003 maybe, not like
the big city but it was cool. I lived near City hall so that was ok, the
skate scene was good, i did not skate much but I had allot of fun doing
it when i had the chance, I met a few skaters out there, one guy name
Devin , he was the star of the neighborhood everyone new him, he
was a good skater, and his boy Joey that was sick with it too. When I
was skating on my own down town,It really hit me and I figured out that
I was a blader to the heart , I was always thinking to my self , that I cant
let skating go. I stud out in Albany for about 2 years or so. Albany is a
very nice place to get away from the city.

So my time was up and I had to head back to the city and begin my true life one more time I basically had to come back because my mother was not feeling well,
very depressed and was looking bad back home, as for me i could not concentrate any more back in Albany, I prittie much left everything, my apartment an
awesome job working at a hotel Holiday inn, school ITT, great friends like Jess and Eli the super producer with composing music rapping and making beets , man
that was the best we made so much hip hop beats during that time.
So, back home and be closer to my mom! Great times out there. As every one knows New York City is not a easy place to find a job even to this day. Till this day I
remember i was living in the Bronx the Gun Hill, Williamsburg section, applying to like 20 jobs a day online and doing research hours of just duhhh, So I Landed
an Electrical job when i came home Christopher john electric that my cousin Rube hooked me up, Iv been there for a while and learned allot in the field of electric,
made me wanna build a house lol , I really did not know what I wanted in life i just ran with it.
During the time iv always been thing about skating and I'm back home and where i should start, who would I contact first , where are all the skate spots everything
was dead, the only thing that kept NYC skate scene alive was a company called B Unique, they had a skate park funded an all but by the time I got there it was
kinda a washed (meaning like a ghost town)! It was falling apart no one cared and that is when I realized again i need to do something help or to make this
stronger again. I mean, it was so bad fire works were going off! Smoke all over the park. but it was what it was.

I Had to play the catch up game with the skate scene
here in NYC, I started skating more and catching up with
some old friends from back in the day. At the time I was
staying in the Bronx with my mother in Gun Hill Road. I
caught up with some friends like Dave, Smoothy, Abdule,
Carly and some others that were still rolling around. We
skated Talked and talked about the industry how it was
and where its going. So then thats When it hit me. At the
time Victor Calerner was doing events Called Last man
Standing (LMS) in the city. Victor was bringing all skaters
together for a huge event every year one big inline skate
street contest, this event was a big turn out, congrats to
him.

So I told myself, I wanted to get involved in the sport
more and be active with the people in aggressive inline
skating and show that i am here to stay but it was not
going to be easy. At the time Myspace was buzzing
around and all skaters were able to communicate better
around the world. So I wanted to travel to some skate
events that went on, out of NYC, had to work my ass off
to make it out to these places at least a G spending
money, just for a few days and be ok, but still. Its harder
in Nyc. So I took trips out to Atlanta, Ohio and Detroit to

check out the High end skate contest to see how was the inline skate scene, I had to see it for myself, and it was bad. i mean it was fun but in a skaters
prospective was not how I pictured it, I mean nothing is never pictured the way you want it. But it seemed to me that the tradition was still the same, and thats
when i realised something need to take action and think about something to take back home It took be a while to do things being caught with every day life and
doing so much one at a time. So thats when Iv came up with my site. www.hypermikenyc.com . And also catch up with some aggressive inline skate pros for
advice and feedback for what can be done for the nyc skate scene. So I stared participating more competing , skating more video and photos shoots, skate
session and gatherings, premieres partys and all that hot stuff. Also Training myself to Keep up with my health and stamina to skate , Whatever was the buzz iv
did my best to attend and support.
